IMDb (Internet Movie Database) adalah sebuah database online dari informasi tentang film, program televisi, video rumahan dan video game, ulasan serta penilaian penggemar dan informasi penting internet lain. IMDb merupakana sebuah situs yang dioperasikan oleh IMDb.com, Inc., anak perusahaan Box Office Mojo milik Amazon. IMDb sendiri pada awalnya dibuat oleh Col Needham, dan resmi rilis pada 17 Oktober 1990 silam dan dioperasikan oleh para penggemar.
Situs yang telah diakuisisi oleh founder, pemilik dan CEO of Amazon com, Jeff Bezos tercatat pada bulan Januari 2019 menduduki peringkat 49 diseluruh dunia menurut Alexa rank. Pada bulan yang sama IMDb juga resmi merilis platform streaming film gratis bernama Freedive, sebuah layanan yang didukung oleh iklan. IMDbPro dapat diakses dengan syarat harus membayar sekian puluh dolar per bulan. Bahkan film berjudul “The Shawshank Redemption” dinobatkan sebagai film peringkat pertama dalam "Top 250".
Meskipun nilai weighted average film tersebut mencapai angka 9.3, padahal nilai arithmetic mean sendiri hanya 9,1. Hal tersebutlah yang membuat terkait formula dan sistem weighted average yang digunakan oleh tim IMDB sangat dirahasiakan. IMDB rating sendiri adalah sebuah penilaian yang diberikan oleh para pengguna IMDB (user rating) atas suatu judul film yang tengah rilis, bukan dari tim IMDB sendiri. Dan hanya pengguna yang terdaftar (registered users) dapat memberikan penilaian pada skala 1 hingga 10, dan totalnya dikonversi menjadi nilai rata-rata tertimbang disertai filter online.
